The San Diego Italian Film Festival, a not for profit 501c(3) organization, has quickly made its mark on the local landscape, joining ranks among the most beloved film festivals San Diego has to offer.
Each year we have taken virtual journeys along with our protagonists, experiencing the passion, love, comedy, despair, and hope of life. We have learned about Italian film from scholars and directors whose insightful introductions and lectures help us understand why these movies speak to us and continue to influence filmmaking throughout the world.
But the San Diego Italian Film Festival is about more than just movies. It is about identity, history and a shared appreciation of Italian culture and great cinema– in a word, it is about community.
Works may focus on Italian culture, either as fiction, documentary or experimental movie, up to 30 minutes in length, and with English subtitles if not in the English language.
We welcome stories told through new perspectives, that appeal to all audiences, and inspire creativity and discussion. Particular interest will be dedicated to social justice themes, such as migration, education, environmental and eco struggles, women’s rights, and so on.
A special focus, section, and award will be dedicated to movies submitted by high school and college students.
